JEFFERSONVILLE —
Beef ‘O’ Brady's — one of the few retail businesses in the long-proposed Jeffersonville Town Center — is now closed.
A note posted on the door said Tuesday, April 24, was the restaurant’s last day. The chain restaurant, which serves wings, beer, burgers and wraps, opened around November 2008.
“I would like to thank the residence of Jeffersonville, IN and the surrounding Southern Indiana Community for supporting us for the last 31⁄2 years,” the note said.
A franchisee for the business was reached but declined to comment on the closing.
Going back almost a decade, Jeffersonville Town Center was planned to be a large retail development featuring multiple upscale anchors but — despite spending by the city on surrounding infrastructure — the project has never gotten off the ground. Beef ‘O’ Brady’s was located in the only building on the south side of the town center. Beef’s departure leaves L & N Federal Credit Union as the only tenant in the building, a good portion of which is unfinished.
The north side of the town center project has seen somewhat better fortunes. Though there’s plenty of space there too, Tire Discounters has opened up there.
Further, Accent Marketing just opened a 34,000 square-foot call center on the far north end of the development last month. Kelly Hilton, director of marketing and communications for Accent, said 400 employees are working there now. An official ribbon cutting for that facility is coming together on May 16.
Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore said the city doesn’t have any sort of marketing campaign specifically for town center. However, he noted a meeting was held with a unnamed business last Friday, during which officials showed off Jeffersonville’s portion of Veterans Parkway.
“That area is going to be responding to the needs of the community soon,” he said.
As Clarksville’s side of Veteran’s Parkway has thrived during the last 10 years — turning into one of Southern Indiana’s commerce hubs — Jeffersonville’s side has remained stagnant.
Over the years, officials have blamed timing, the national economy and the nearby adult book store for the tenuous growth.
The land is owned by developer Jack Koetter. He was called for comment for this story but could not be reached.
