JEFFERSONVILLE —
After long months of politico speak about what shall and shan’t be done with RiverStage I, Jeffersonville residents can rejoice in the fact that the popular entertainment barge will soon be back on the riverfront.
The barge has been in winter storage as discussions about renovation — and even possible replacement — have taken place. On Monday the vessel is supposed to be back to its dock, at the Terrace Lawn just south of Spring Street and Riverside Drive.
According to Jeffersonville Parks and Recreation Director Paul Northam, a new stage floor, back stage wall construction, railing repairs and additions and replacement of exterior bumpers have all been completed. Crews have already started painting the barge and new lights and sound system are set to be installed next week.
The cost of all that work will be about $270,000, which will be paid by funds received from the Clark-Floyd Counties Convention and Tourism Bureau.
The city is still seeking to sell RiverStage II, a vessel that was purchased to replace RiverStage I by the previous administration. Plans to replace RiverStage I were scrapped when renovation estimates for RiverStage II came in much higher than expected.
