Vectren says disconnect ban is over

Company says help is still available

>>SOUTHERN INDIANA — Vectren Energy Delivery is reminding customers that a regulatory moratorium preventing utilities from disconnecting those who meet low-income guidelines and have received federal and state utility heating assistance expired Monday.

Customers who have received a disconnect notice or need bill-payment assistance are urged to contact Vectren at 800-227-1376 or at online at vectren.com.

Payment arrangement, budgeted billing and energy-assistance programs are available. Customers also are encouraged to apply for residential weatherization programs, including those available from the state of Indiana through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Customers who are at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines may qualify for these weatherization programs, according to a press release.

“We have a number of programs, resources and payment options in place that can help customers who may be experiencing financial hardship or have found themselves behind on bill payments,” said Doug Petitt, vice president of marketing and conservation for the company, in the release. “In light of this difficult economy, we’ve even continued several new programs to help Hoosiers manage costs and financially recover from what was a challenging winter heating season.”
