Amphitheater damaged in break-in attempt

NEW ALBANY — New Albany police are investigating a break-in attempt that occurred at the city’s riverfront amphitheater, either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

Flood Control Director Ronald Grangier reported to police shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday that someone apparently hooked a chain or rope to a garage door in the theater’s lower level and attempted to pull the door out of the structure. Grangier said his preliminary inspection of the facility did not reveal that anything was missing, but the door, which was bent in the incident, will have to be replaced. Grangier said he suspects it will cost more than $1,000 for the needed repairs.

The New Albany Police Department is asking that anyone with information about the person responsible for this crime report it to the department’s crime tip line at 812-948-NAPD or 948-6273, or to the Criminal Investigation Division at 948-5317.
