NORTH VERNON —
A Charlestown man died following a two-car crash late Thursday, police said.
The crash occurred on Ind. 3 south of Vernon.
The Jennings County Sheriff’s Department reported that 48-year-old Fred Akers of Charlestown was northbound on the highway when his pickup ran off the east side of the road, striking a large tree.
The truck then rolled several times before landing back on the highway where it was struck by a southbound car driven by Lisa Owensby, 33, of Commiskey.
Both vehicles ended up in the middle of the highway, which was closed for more than an hour as crews cleared the scene.
Akers was pronounced dead by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office.
No other injuries were reported by the sheriff’s department.
