A teenager charged with class D felony assisting a criminal following the shooting of two Jeffersonville Police Department officers, is expected to plead guilty in that case today.
Kyle Wayne Bieber, 19, previously made statements to the media about how he helped Robert Datillo, a known fugitive, obtain a room at the Motel 6 in Jeffersonville in February.
Police believe Datillo ambushed and shot Cpl. Dan Lawhorn and Patrolman Keith Broady at that hotel. Datillo later killed himself after a standoff with police in Louisville. The officers survived.
His attorney, Perry McCall, said he is due in court today to plead guilty.
A plea agreement has also been reached in another case involving Bieber. He had been charged with class C felony burglary, class D felony receiving stolen property and class D felony auto theft in Clark County Circuit Court.
According to court records, Bieber has pleaded guilty to class D felony receiving stolen property and would be sentenced to one year in prison. He is scheduled for a sentencing hearing Aug. 4 in that case.
WOMAN WHO STOLE FROM EMPLOYER ORDERED TO PAY RESTITUTION
A 28-year-old Jeffersonville woman accused of stealing $16,000 from her employer pleaded guilty to class D felony theft last week and was sentenced to two years probation.
Aimee Sodenkamp was arrested in August 2007 and was charged with 59 felony counts that included theft, forgery and identity deception.
Sodenkamp worked as a receptionist at The Springs Salon & Spa.
A probable-cause affidavit states that she wrote checks from and obtained a credit card in the name of the salon owner’s husband. She was accused of forging $3,600 worth of checks and running up a credit card bill of $12,252.
All charges except the one count of theft were dismissed by the prosecutor. Sodenkamp also is required to pay $14,800 in restitution, court records show.
The plea agreement was accepted by Magistrate Ken Abbott in Superior Court No. 3.
MAN INVOLVED IN BANK ROBBERY PLEADS GUILTY
A plea agreement has been filed for a man accused of being the driver of the getaway vehicle used in a Jeffersonville bank robbery.
Kevin Gordon has pleaded guilty to class D felony assisting a criminal and would be sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction if the plea agreement, which was filed Wednesday, is accepted by the court.
Gordon, who was 29 years old and living in Louisville, was caught by police driving a vehicle just minutes after 45-year-old Duward Roby robbed the First Savings Bank along Allison Lane.
Roby was convicted by a jury last week of class B felony armed robbery. Roby subsequently pleaded guilty to being a habitual offender. He faces up to 50 years in prison.
Police allegedly found Gordon and Roby inside the vehicle along with thousands of dollars in cash, a fully loaded semi-automatic 9-millimeter handgun, a ski mask and gloves.
Roby is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 10. Gordon is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 17, at which time Superior Court No. 1 Judge Vicki Carmichael will decide whether or not to accept the plea agreement.
