Red Cross again sponsoring 9/11 memorial

Public can help with event Monday and Tuesday, and also walk at Henryville Elementary School

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — The Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its annual 9/11 Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Chapter campus.

Beginning Monday night 9, volunteers and neighbors of the chapter will place 3,041 flags on the grounds. Each flag bears the name of one of the victims of the terrorist attacks that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.

The community is invited to join in placing the flags on Monday evening. Please arrive by 9 p.m., when there will be a blessing of the flags before placing them in the ground. Even though we have had some rain, the ground is still hard, so you may want to bring a hammer and sturdy screwdriver to use as a hole-starter.

At the Tuesday memorial, there will be music, readings, taps, bagpipes, the performing of the “Ringing of the Four Fives” bells by the Utica Fire Department and other activities.

The public is invited to participate Monday and Tuesday.

Walk at Henryville Elementary School

Henryville Elementary Students will once again participate in the America Supports You Freedom Walk.

The walk is a national tradition that lets us reflect on the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, rescuers that responded and veterans past and present.

The walk has grown each year. Students will participate in the freedom walk from 11:30 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. Tuesday by walking around the track while waving American flags. Contact the school if you would like to assist in any way — 812-294-4806.
