CHARLESTOWN —
The Charlestown Police Department will be participating in the “Give Sofi a New Leash on Life” project. The event is designed to support 6-year-old Sofia Wilkinson, of Charlestown, who suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy that is often resistant to treatment and causes prolonged seizures.
The money raised from the event will go toward helping Sofi purchase a Seizure Alert Dog to help make her more independent.
Sofi’s family is working with 4 Paws for Ability, a nonprofit organization, to help make this happen.
Charlestown police are participating in several fundraising efforts to help Sofia reach her goal of getting a Seizure Alert Dog.
Police will be raising money by hosting two roadblocks from 5 to 9 p.m. today and Oct. 5.
During these roadblocks officers and city employees will be stationed at the intersection of County Road 403 and Ind. 3 and the intersection of Ind. 62 and Ind. 3.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can come to the Charlestown Police Department 24 hours a day to drop off a donation in the form of cash or check. Those donating by check are asked to make the check payable to 4 Paws for Ability and write “In Honor of Sofia Wilkinson” in the memo section of the check.
“Give Sofi a New Leash on Life” bracelets will also be sold at the police department for $2.
