• 6,291 first-year students, include 3,432 Indiana residents, 1,851 U.S. nonresidents and 1,008 international students.
• 8,562 international students on the West Lafayette campus,628 students more than last year.
• 8,163 graduate students, a record number.
• Gender: Women 16,548, men 22,708
• Ethnicity: Black or African-American, 1,284; Asian, 1,840; Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, 23; Hispanic/Latino, 1,393; American Indian/Alaska Native, 77; and two or more races, 599
• All but 502 Indiana students who applied to the West Lafayette campus were offered admission to the Purdue system.

Enrollment at Purdue’s regional campuses:
• Purdue Calumet, 10,054
• Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, 13,771
• Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, 5,429 enrolled in Purdue programs
• Purdue North Central, 6,048
• Statewide Technology, 1,145 College of Technology degrees are offered in Anderson, Columbus/Greensburg, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Lafayette, New Albany, Richmond, South Bend and Vincennes.

WEST LAFAYETTE — Undergraduate enrollment at Purdue University is down a bit from last year as part of a plan to make space for additional graduate students.

This fall 30,147 undergraduates are enrolled on the West Lafayette campus, a decrease of 629, the university reported this morning. The freshman class size is 368 fewer than last year. This is part of a goal to shift enrollment to 30,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduate students.

This fall 30,147 undergraduates are enrolled on the West Lafayette campus, a decrease of 629, the university reported this morning. The freshman class size is 368 fewer than last year. This is part of a goal to shift enrollment to 30,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduate students.

“Admissions is strategically moving toward this target enrollment goal by 2014 to continue serving students with high-quality instruction, while matching the size of the student body with our physical and educational resources,” said Pamela T. Horne, associate vice provost for enrollment management and dean of admissions, in a statement.

Total system enrollment — which includes West Lafayette, Purdue Calumet, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, select programs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Purdue North Central and the Statewide Technology Program — is 75,703.

Purdue reports the incoming class earned all-time high test scores and average high school grade point averages. The class average SAT score increased by 18 points to a combined 1749 on the critical reading, math and writing sections.
