JEFFERSONVILLE —
A Jeffersonville man was sentenced to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction Thursday after being found guilty of robbing a Jeffersonville Rite-Aid by a Clark County jury in October.
George Alec Nunley, 44, of 825 Sharon Drive, was convicted after stealing DVDs and assaulting a store employee after entering a Rite-Aid at 10th Street and Allison Lane in April 2010. Nunley remained out of the reach of authorities for nearly four months until he was located, and later charged, during a Sellersburg Rite-Aid robbery investigation.
Clark County Circuit Court No. 1 Judge Daniel Moore sentenced Nunley to eight years for the robbery — put person in fear conviction and another 12 years for the habitual felon conviction. The robbery charge was classified as “put person in fear” as Nunley shoved and verbally threatened the Rite-Aid manager before he left the business after committing the robbery.
Clark County Deputy Prosecutor Jennifer Harmeyer represented the state during Nunley’s recent court proceedings.
“I think [Moore] did the right thing,” Harmeyer said of the maximum sentencing. “Mr. Nunley has been committing thefts and resisting law enforcement since 1986. He has been convicted of felonies over and over and over again here in Indiana, also in Kentucky. Mr. Nunley has had his chances, and it is time he faces the consequences for the thefts and criminal activity.”
While Nunley has a lengthy prison sentence awaiting him, he is not done facing charges in Clark County.
Nunley is charged with theft, a class D felony, and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor, for the Sellersburg Rite-Aid robbery that occurred Sept. 15.
During the September incident, Nunley was charged with stealing a bottle of Crown Royal whiskey.
He is scheduled to appear in Clark County Circuit Court No. 1 Nov. 27 for a jury trial for the Sellersburg Rite-Aid robbery.
