Clarksville man dies days after Louisville wreck

Driver facing numerous felony charges

LOUISVILLE — A Clarksville man died four days after a one-car wreck in Louisville. The driver of the vehicle may now be charged with murder, according to newsgathering partner WLKY-TV.

Jacob Mower, 33, of the 600 block of Parkwood Drive, was pronounced dead from anoxic brain injury at University Hospital in Louisville at 5:27 a.m. Wednesday. Mower was in the back seat of a Honda Accord that crashed into a tree at 12:26 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Grinstead Drive.

John C. Koerner, 34, also from the 600 block of Parkwood Drive in Clarksville, was preliminarily charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, assault, leaving the scene of the accident, wanton endangerment and driving without insurance. The Louisville Metro Police Department is now consulting with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office about upgrading the charges, possibly to include murder.

Kristy Harper, 32, of Louisville, also was a passenger in the vehicle. She, too, was arrested and preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Police allege Koerner and Harper exited the vehicle after the crash and fled from the scene on foot. They were found a short time later and arrested.

Koerner was arrested in Floyd County in 2001 for allegedly leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, but the charge was dismissed.
