JEFFERSONVILLE —
Jeffersonville’s Board of Public Works accepted a bid for two fire pumper trucks at a total cost of $848,106 at its meeting Wednesday.
The fire trucks purchased will replace trucks from 1968 and 1970.
Purchase of the two trucks was reaffirmed at a City Council budget work session Monday. The decision to buy the trucks prompted a change in the city’s capital purchases process and according to the five-year capital plan included in the city’s 2013 budget, the fire trucks will be paid for on a 10-year lease purchase agreement.
The low bid from Mid America Fire and Safety, LLC for Ferrara model fire trucks, at $424,053 each, was unanimously accepted.
Truck routes
Jeffersonville Street Commissioner David Hosea requested the board approve another truck route through the city.
The request was to allow semi trucks to use Wall Street, from 10th to Market streets, in order to access Jeffboat.
Hosea said trucks using Penn Street, which is a concrete road, to access Jeffboat are tearing up the street. He explained Wall Street is the only alternative that can handle heavy loads, allows access through the flood wall and is wide enough to allow the trucks to make the turns on and off of the road.
The board approved the request and also approved sending a notification to the residents along Wall Street to inform them the road will become an alternative truck route.
Veterans Day plans
Chad Armstrong requested a street closure to allow for the installation of a war memorial for Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans before Veterans Day in November.
The memorial is being delivered in two pieces and will be installed along Riverside Drive near the Big Four Bridge.
Armstrong said he is uncertain as to when the monument will be delivered, but he should receive 24-hours notice and it will require the street to be closed for a minimum of two hours.
The board of public works unanimously approved the street closure.
Financial software
Request-for-proposals for new financial software were opened at the board of public works meeting Wednesday.
Bids from New World Systems, Tyler Technologies and BS and A Software were received and taken under advisement. City Controller Monica Harmon requested a committee be formed to review the proposals and be able to offer a recommendation at an upcoming meeting.
The request was unanimously approved.
Stop sign requested
City Engineer Andy Crouch addressed a request to install a four-way stop at the intersection of Thomas V. Bryant Drive and 12th Street in Jeffersonville.
He said installing a four-way stop would be a “last resort” and an obstructed view is the larger issue. Crouch said he would develop a plan to address the intersection and bring it back at a subsequent meeting.
