Galatian hosting chicken dinner

Galatian Missionary Baptist Church,  2020 Maryland Ave., New Albany, is sponsoring a barbecue chicken dinner, beginning at noon Saturday, Sept. 29, at the church. Dark meat dinner, $7, white meat dinner, $8, hamburger dinner, $4 and hot dog dinner, $3. Desserts are $1 each.

Kiwanis pancake breakfast Oct. 10

The Kiwanis Club of Historic New Albany will sponsor a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at The Grand Theatre in downtown New Albany.

Table sponsorship is $300 and you receive 20 tickets for an “all you can eat” pancake breakfast. Individual tickets are $10 each.

Race for Education Sept. 29

A Family Friendly 5K Run/Walk for Education will start and end at the New Albany Amphitheater, 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29.

The walk/run will start at the Amphitheater, walking along the river, turning around at 18th Street and finishing back at the Amphitheater.

 Pre-registration $20. After Sept. 15, $25. Mail entries and fees to New Albany BPW, Race for Education, PO Box 1172, New Albany, IN 47151. Make checks payable to NABPW Run for Education.

Toy train show begins Oct. 6

The Southern Indiana Railsoraders will host a toy train show at the New Albany Masonic Lodge, 805 E. Market St., New Albany.

The show will be from 10 a.m.  to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.



SOUTHERN INDIANA

Young to host Military Academy Day

Rep. Todd Young will host a Military Academy Day, beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sep. 29, at Ivy Tech Community College,  8204 Hwy 311, Sellersburg. The event is open to any high school student interested in earning a college degree from a military institution and their families. Young will be on hand to meet students and offer his perspective as a Naval Academy graduate on the opportunities offered by a military education.

Beginning at 10 a.m. representatives from the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and U.S. Coast Guard Academy will each give presentations on their respective schools, and will be available to answer questions. Students and parents with questions about the event should contact the 9th District Congressional office in Jeffersonville at 812- 288-3999.



Deadline for Master Gardener event is Oct. 4

The Sunnyside Master Gardener Association is hosting a four-part lecture series on two consecutive Thursday evenings — Oct. 18 and Oct. 25. The series includes lectures on Winterizing Your Garden, Proper Pruning Procedures, Planting Trees and Shrubs and Planting Perennials and Bulbs.

The series will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Clark County REMC, 7810 Ind. 60, Sellersburg. The series, which includes a light dinner each session, is only $15 for both nights. Registration is required by Oct. 4. Space is limited and is first come, first serve.

Library announces story hours

The Charlestown-Clark County Public Library would like to announce its Fall Storyhour Programs. Book Babies (ages 0-24 months); Tot-Time (ages 17-35 months); and Storyhour (ages 3-5 years) will begin Oct. 1.

Golf Fore Kids is Oct. 8

The GCCS Educational Foundation will host its 12th annual “Golf Fore Kids.” Two flight times will be available to accommodate players: 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., both shotgun starts,  Oct. 8, at the Jeffersonville Elks Club, Charlestown Pike, Jeffersonville.

The cost to participate is $100 per player, which includes green fees, cart rental, and a meal. Visit the Greater Clark County Schools’ website at www.gcs.k12.in.us to register online or contact Supervisor of Communications Erin Bojorquez at 812-283-0701.

All proceeds from the event will fund the GCCS Educational Foundation’s Advanced Placement Scholarship Program.
