JEFFERSONVILLE —
No injuries were reported after a wreck involving Greater Clark County Schools bus No. 505 Thursday afternoon.
The Jeffersonville Police Department received a call at 2:28 p.m. about the accident.
Lucrecia Wathen, 64, of Bethlehem, was turning right into a shopping center in the 3800 block of East 10th Street when the bus struck her Ford Explorer. Wathen said she had activated her turn signal, but that “he was going too fast to stop.”
“It hit really hard,” she said.
JPD Capt. Kenny Kavanaugh said the evidence at the scene supported her statement that she was turning into the shopping center. Kavanaugh said there was no indication the bus was going too fast, but they will try to determine the speed of the bus as part of their investigation.
Kavanaugh said there were 24 students on the bus, but none reported being injured. Yellow EMS personnel checked the vital signs of each student as is normal procedure. The students were transferred to another bus.
Wathen said she was not injured. There was significant damage to the Explorer and bus.
Greater Clark’s director of transportation was on scene and investigated the cause of the accident, including obtaining statements from students on the bus, said Erin Bojorquez, supervisor of communications for Greater Clark.
“The bus driver will continue his duties for Greater Clark,” she said.
