Coroner identifies pedestrian struck by car

No charges are expected to be filed

JEFFERSONVILLE — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man struck and killed Friday night while crossing East 10th Street in Jeffersonville.

Charles G. McKinney, 43, of the 400 block of Watt Street in Jeffersonville, was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Louisville at 9:15 p.m. Friday, according to Deputy Coroner Rita Taylor. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt-force injuries sustained in a pedestrian versus motor vehicle accident.

According to Jeffersonville Police Department Detective Todd Hollis, the victim was struck just before 9 p.m. while crossing 10th Street from south to north near Howard Avenue.

Hollis said the driver told police he did not see the pedestrian until the man was directly in front of his car. He braked but was unable to stop in time. Another driver said he nearly struck the pedestrian just before the fatal collision.

Police do not anticipate filing charges. Hollis said there was no evidence of the driver being impaired. They are still waiting toxicology reports for the victim.
