MLK dinner to be held Feb. 2

The New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp., in conjunction with the New Albany-Floyd County Education Association, will present the 17th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Dinner at 6 p.m., Feb. 2, at New Albany High School cafeteria.

Guest speaker  will be Ricky L. Jones, professor of Pan African Studies at the University of Louisville.

Parks offering Mom and Me Playtime

A free Mom and Me Playtime event is available to Floyd County parents from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Wednesday in February at the Griffin Street Center gymnasium.

A parent or grandparent can bring children to Griffin Street for self-guided indoor fun. Balls and age appropriate equipment will be provided.

Nominations being accepted for FCHS hall of fame

Nominations are currently being accepted for Floyd Central Alumni Association’s Hall of Fame. The inductees will be honored at the third annual Hall of Fame event on Saturday, April 28.  The evening will again feature a silent auction to be held in the rotunda, with dinner and ceremony to follow in the central commons area of Floyd Central High School.

Nominees can include former students, teachers, coaches, or staff members of Floyd Central High School. People are encouraged to nominate someone who stands out through his/her contributions to education, business, arts, leadership, athletics, community or nation.

 To be considered, a nominee must have been out of school a minimum of 10 years, or completed a minimum of 10 years of service with the school. Additional criteria and submission requirements are included on the nomination form. The nomination form may be accessed on Floyd Central Alumni’s Facebook page or by contacting the committee chair,  Donna Riley, at dkriley@frontier.com or 812-952-2908.
