Career workshop coming Tuesday
The Jeffersonville Downtown Ministerial Association is sponsoring a Career Development Workshop for people interested in obtaining a new job.

Ogle Center hosts bluegrass duo
International Bluegrass Award Winners Dailey & Vincent will perform at the Ogle Center at Indiana University Southeast, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.

Legion to honor Four Chaplains
The American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post 28, 1930 McDonald Lane, New Albany, will host the annual observance of the Four Chaplains Day at 11 a.m. Feb. 5.
American Legion family members will present an oratorical on each of the four Army Chaplains who sacrificed their lives to save a few of the 900 aboard the USAT Dorchester while it sank in the icy Atlantic near Newfoundland Feb. 3, 1943, after being torpedoed by a German submarine.
Members from other local veteran organizations will also participate in this very moving account of this war tragedy. This event is open to the public and lunch will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Program on Girl Scouts set
Historian Marie Byatt will present “A Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society meeting in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany.
Byatt is a 50-year volunteer with the Girl Scouts and a SIGS member.
Gallery on Pearl to offer new exhibit
Works from artists in the Floyd County Crit Club will be featured in a new exhibit opening Friday, Feb. 3, at The Gallery on Pearl.
The exhibit is titled “12x12”, and will be on display through March 16. The opening reception will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Gallery on Pearl, which is located inside the White House Centre at 222 Pearl St. in New Albany.

Book Babies at the library
Book Babies will feature songs, books and fun with babies and their grown-ups. This program will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 through April 30 at Sellersburg Library, 430 N. New Albany St., Sellersburg.

Fifth Sunday at Utica churches
Utica-area churches’ annual fifth Sunday singing will be at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Utica United Methodist Church. All are invited to attend and participate. A fellowship time will follow the singing. Remaining dates for the 2012 schedule are: April 29 at Utica Baptist Church, July 29 at Utica Church of Christ and Sept. 30 at Utica Praise Church.

Register for faith retreat
Speed Memorial Church, 328 U.S. 31, Speed, will sponsor a Women of Faith Retreat from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 11 at the church.
The retreat will be led by Lori Hadorn-Disselkamp, motivational speaker and writer of Faith Filled Mom.com. and Jennifer Schiller, pastoral counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist. Women of all ages are invited to join the half day retreat.

Legislators to visit
State Sen. Richard D. Young and State Rep. Rhonda Rhoads will discuss legislative issues with the public at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 4 in the Superior Courtroom in the Harrison County Justice Center, located at 1445 Gardner Lane, west of Corydon. The program will conclude at 9 a.m.
The event is co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Harrison County and the Harrison County Farm Bureau. Fruit doughnuts and coffee will be served beginning at 7 a.m.
The public is invited.
