No paper on Thursday, offices closed

The News and Tribune will not print a Thursday edition because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Production will resume Friday, Nov. 23.

Also, the offices in New Albany and Jeffersonville will be closed Thursday and Friday and will reopen Monday, Nov. 26.

Road to recovery needs drivers

The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program is having trouble staying on course. This vital patient service program is in need of volunteers who are willing to drive cancer patients to and form their cancer treatments. Volunteers are needed to ensure that all patients are getting the care they desperately need to get back on the Road to Recovery.

You can drive as little or as much as your schedule allows during the regular work week. The American Cancer Society will train the volunteers and the only requirements are to have a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, insurance, a vehicle that is in good working condition and the desire to help in the fight against cancer.

CLARKSVILLE

Clarksville traffic signal operational

The traffic signal on the corner of Blackiston Mill Road and Potters Lane is now fully operational.

Construction on the signal, which began during the spring of this year, cost $655,407 and is funded by federal dollars through the State of Indiana with a local match from the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission, according to a release from the Town of Clarksville.

JEFFERSONVILLE

Church featuring group

Grace Family Worship Church of God, 202 E. Maple St., Jeffersonville, will feature The Gloryland Quartet at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the church.

Center collecting gift cards

The Center for Women and Families will sponsor Purse Strings 2012 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 300 Spring, Jeffersonville, Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Gift cards for The Center for Women and Families participants for the Holiday Season will be collected. Please bring a card from a store like Target, Wal-Mart, Meijer, etc., with a suggested value of $25.

NEW ALBANY

Salvation Army serving dinner

Thanksgiving dinner will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at The Salvation Army, 2300 Green Valley Road, New Albany.

Volunteers from The Salvation Army and Northside Christian Church will be serving traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings.

The dinner is open to the public, according to Maj. Steve Kiger with The Salvation Army. There will be no charge.

This dinner is offered to those who would otherwise be without a Thanksgiving dinner and fellowship.

Church welcomes Santa for breakfast

The public is invited to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church’s annual Santa breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at The Salvation Army, 2300 Green Valley Road in New Albany.

The event will feature a complete home-cooked breakfast, puppet show, craft table, and Santa’s workshop filled with $1 gifts for children to purchase and have wrapped free of charge. Santa Claus will be there to speak individually with children, and cameras are welcome.

Tickets to the Santa Breakfast are $5 for adults and $3 for children up to age 10. They are available by calling Sandy Wells, reservation chair of the sponsoring United Methodist Women, at 812-725-7939, or by stopping by the church offices at 2818 Grant Line Road/Suite 7 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. The deadline is Nov. 28.

FLOYD COUNTY

Historical Society to meet

The Floyd County Historical Society will have its next meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 in the Elsa Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.

The program entitled “The Scribner House: New Albany’s Home Place” will be presented by Anne Caudill, Mandy Dick, Pam Peters and Carlene Price, the authors of the most recent book on the Scribner House.

The book will also be available for purchase at the meeting. This is an official New Albany Bicentennial event and is free and open to the public.

SELLERSBURG
