JEFFERSONVILLE —
A suspect in an October robbery turned himself into the Michael L. Becher Adult Corrections Complex on Thursday.
After Jeremy Mudd, 20, was booked in, he had an initial hearing in Clark County Circuit Court No. 1, where he was charged with robbery, a class B felony.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, Mudd allegedly approached a victim, who was sitting on a bench in Lapping Park, and began strangling him. The victim claimed Mudd used a Taser on his neck, took $50 and his cell phone. Then, along with three other suspects, he fled in a vehicle following the alleged assault.
Police reportedly questioned Mudd on Oct. 25, when he admitted that he was contacted by the victim, who asked Mudd if he wanted to buy psychedelic mushrooms. The police report said Mudd admitted to meeting with the victim and taking him to Lapping Park with the intention to “jack” him.
Mudd said he was sitting in the car next to the victim, took the mushrooms, his cell phone, kicked him out of the car and fled the park, throwing the cell phone out the window as the car left, according to the police report. Mudd denied being out of the car, taking any money or that he Tasered anyone.
Mudd has entered a plea of not guilty and a jury trial has been scheduled for July 10. He has been released and is on home incarceration, according to the court’s case summary report.
A B felony carries a penalty of six to 20 years and prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
