CLARKSVILLE —
Scott Gardner was named as the new principal for Clarksville Middle School at Clarksville Community Schools’ board meeting Tuesday.
Gardner was an assistant principal at the middle school and held the same position at Clarksville High School for three years. He was voted in by the board with a 4-1 vote, with board member Mike Kane as the sole opposition.
Kim Knott, superintendent, said Gardner’s commitment to the district was something that made him stand out as an applicant for the job.
“He knows our family and he wants to be at this middle school because he wants this to be a place where people want to send their children,” Knott said.
In a news release from the district, Knott said she thinks Gardner will continue to make Clarksville Middle School successful.
“He is committed to working with staff to find ways to improve student learning,” Knott said in the release. “Most important, he knows our families and students and he is determined to make Clarksville Middle School a place where all achieve and succeed.”
At the meeting, Gardner said with programs aimed at quality instruction running in the district, he’s excited to take the top spot at the middle school.
“I look forward on taking the foundation that’s here and building on it and growing on it to get these kids college- and career-ready,” Gardner said. “It’s just an exciting time.”
In the release, Gardner said he can’t wait to get the next school year off to a start.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity,” he said. “I look forward to working with a great group of students, parents, faculty and staff.”
Gardner’s contract will last for two years. He replaces Greg Moe as the principal, who retired at the end of the school year.
Kane declined to comment on why he did not vote in favor of Gardner.
