JEFFERSONVILLE —
Amazon.com Inc. shipped its first package out of Jeffersonville’s distribution center Wednesday, according to a press release.
The package was a Halloween costume sent to a customer in Texas.
About 900 people have begun work at the center and during the next several weeks, Amazon expects to hire more employees as the holiday retail season kicks into high gear, according to the release.
The center in River Ridge Commerce Center, off of Ind. 62, is operational after breaking ground six months ago.
The building has 1 million square feet of floor space, four miles of conveyor belts and ships packages that range from apparel and shoes to watches and jewelry, according to the release.
