JEFFERSONVILLE —
A Greenville woman is accused of breaking into a Jeffersonville storage unit and stealing $10,000 worth of Hot Wheels cars.
Misty N. Mayer, 30, is charged with burglary, a class C felony, and receiving/possession of stolen property, a class D felony.
According to the probable cause affidavit, less than a month after a woman and her husband rented and moved items into a storage unit at Storage Express, they received a call that the unit’s garage door was open and the lock was missing. The owners said the only thing missing in the unit was the husband’s Hot Wheel collection, which contained 4,000 Hot Wheels cars.
About a month later, in January, police received a tip that the Hot Wheels were taken to Something Different II auction house in New Albany. The owner of the auction house said he had purchased the collection from Mayer for $400. The victims identified the Hot Wheels as the ones that were taken.
A warrant for Mayer’s arrest was issued in February, according to online court records. She was arrested Tuesday. If convicted, Mayer faces two to eight years for the C felony and six months to three years for the D felony.
