Howard Chapel hosting study group

At 6 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Victor McKinney will instruct a course on the meaning of church membership from the New Testament perspective especially for Baptists, at Howard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1715 E. Market St., New Albany.

The study group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Sunday through June 10. The public is invited to attend. A book titled “Baptist Handbook for Church Members” will be available for $4.50. For more information, call 812-944-6382.

Medicare seminar at the library

Do you find Medicare confusing? The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library is hosting a Medicare seminar from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the Strassweg auditorium. Jackie Taylor, a Medicare specialist, will present the seminar.

Taylor works with senior citizens in Southern Indiana to inform them of their rights and choices when it comes to Medicare. The seminar will include information concerning Medicare and Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Part D drug plans.

Business social media seminar set

WorkOne New Albany will host Sheryl Connelly of Marketing Media Management for a business seminar titled How to Recruit Talent and Professionally Network using Social Media. The free seminar will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at WorkOne-New Albany-Multimedia Room, 2125 State St., suite 16, New Albany.

The program will focus on using LinkedIn and Twitter to develop professional networks and to find and recruit talent for your organization.

JEFFERSONVILLE

NARFE group to meet

Jeffersonville National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 381 will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Hidden Hill Nursery, Utica. The cost is $5 per person.

Those wishing to carpool can meet at Red Cross Building, 1805 E. Eighth St. in Jeffersonville at 12:15 p.m.

4-H enrollment on tap

4-H youth planning to exhibit sheep, swine, beef heifers, beef cow/calf pairs, beef feeder calves, goats, dairy, poultry, rabbits or lamas at the 2012 Clark County 4-H Fair must have their animals enrolled, and with some species, weighed and ear tagged May 12.

The identification will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Clark County 4-H Fairgrounds, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown. In addition, all livestock enrollment forms, including poultry and rabbits must be turned in for these animals on or before May 12. Exhibitors must have their Premise ID number to place on their 4-H livestock enrollment form in order to show at the 2012 Clark County 4-H Fair (rabbits and horses are exempt).

Youth needing 4-H Livestock Enrollment Forms or any additional information, should contact the Clark County Extension Office at 812-256-4591.

NEW WASHINGTON

Alumni basketball game at NWHS

New Washington High School SADD is sponsoring an alumni basketball game for the American Cancer Society in memory of Mariam “SUG” Matthews from 6 to 10 p.m. May 12 at New Washington High School, 226 Ind.. 62, New Washington. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m.

There will also be a free-throw and three-point contest.

SOUTHERN INDIANA

LSI taking applications

Leadership Southern Indiana is accepting applications for the upcoming class of 2013. Those who work or live in Clark or Floyd Counties are encouraged to apply. Deadline for application is May 18.

The nine month leadership development and community engagement program kicks-off at a retreat Aug. 23-24 then meets each month for one day to explore key opportunities and challenges in Southern Indiana, including: history and heritage, health and human services, education, commerce and industry, servant leadership, diversity, government and law, and arts, leisure and tourism.

Economic forum, breakfast slated for May 16

The Mid-Year Economic Update, sponsored by Southern Indiana Business Source and the Indiana University Southeast School of Business, is set for 8 a.m. May 16.

Prior to the economic update, a networking breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. before Uric Dufrene, Sanders Chair of the Indiana University Southeast School of Business, provides input on national trends and the local economy.

The event will be held in the Hoosier Room at IU Southeast. There’s no charge to attend the presentation but reservations must be made by May 14.
