A National Day of Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today Thursday, May 3, at Sellersburg United Methodist Church, 226 New Albany St., Sellersburg. The public is invited to attend.
Library to celebrate Mexican heritage
In recognition of Cinco de Mayo, a day that celebrates Mexican heritage and pride, commemorating the Battle of Puebla, Arcoiris Latino will be at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, 211 E. Court Ave.
Arcoiris Latino, a dance troop comprised of first- and second-generation immigrants from Mexico, who dance to folklore Mexican music at various events in and around Louisville, is directed by Martina and Miguel Lagunas. For more information, call 812-285-5635, or visit jefflibrary.org.
Band to kickoff teen nights
Beyond Doubt, a local teenage band from Jeffersonville, will kickoff Thursday teen nights at the Lighthouse Restaurant and Lounge on Thursday, May 3, at the corner of Market and Main streets, Jeffersonville.
The free event is open to all ages and will begin at 6 p.m.
Event set for council candidate
Kelly Khuri, who is running as a Republican candidate for Clark County Council at-large, will be hosting a meet and greet from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Chuck’s Cafe, formerly “A Nice Restaurant,” 2784 Meijer Drive, Jeffersonville.
Boy Scouts selling petunias
Boy Scout Troop 747 of Floyds Knobs will be selling Hanging Baskets of petunias in time for Mother’s Day. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at River Valley Bank, located on the corner of Scottsville Road and Paoli Pike. The sale of the flowers helps offset the cost of camping trips the boys take throughout the year.
Cinco de Mayo celebration at the library
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Strassweg Auditorium.
The library will celebrate with food, music and activities for children. There will be stories and crafts for young children and crafts and a scavenger hunt for older children.

Book sale to be Saturday
On Saturday, May 5, the Friends of the New Albany Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany, will hold its annual Mother’s Day book sale, with a 50 percent discount on all books in the parenting section from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the library’s Annex Building. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for videos, DVDs, paperbacks and CDs; 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes; 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes; and 5 cents for vinyl records. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less.
