NEW ALBANY —
Four fugitives, including a couple wanted for strong-arm robbery outside a Clarksville bank, were arrested Wednesday at a house in New Albany.
Paul F. Denny, 45, and Robin M. Denny, 39, both from Clarksville, are charged with class B felony robbery resulting in serious injury. According to a probable-cause affidavit, Clarksville Police Department officers were dispatched Dec. 7 to PNC Bank along Eastern Boulevard.
A woman was found on the sidewalk in front of the bank with a pool of blood around her head. A witness said she saw a man wearing a black hoodie attempt to yank the woman’s purse. She lost her balance and fell to the sidewalk, hitting her head on the concrete. The victim suffered a fractured shoulder, an elbow injury and required stitches above her eye, according to police.
Just prior to the robbery, a woman exited the bank and asked the robber if he had the purse yet, according to the witness. The robber said no and then grabbed the victim’s purse and took off running. A bystander chased the robber until he disappeared behind an apartment complex. The woman drove away in a maroon GMC truck.
A bank teller identified the woman as Robin Denny, and the victim and a witness picked Paul Denny, her husband, from a photo lineup. Clarksville detectives also received video showing the couple using the victim’s debit card at Kroger and Red Dog Liquors.
According to the affidavit, Robin Denny had agreed to meet with detectives but never went to the police station. Clarksville Police Department Chief of Detectives Darrell Rayborn contacted the U.S. Marshals in New Albany to locate the couple.
Floyd County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Jeff Topping, who works with the U.S. Marshals, said he contacted New Albany Police Department Officer Brian Reardon, who was recently assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets task force.
Reardon said he knew where the couple was staying. The two federal task forces and New Albany Police Department went to a residence in the 300 block of East 13th Street in New Albany.
Topping said Paul Denny answered the door, and Robin Denny was seen walking toward the rear of the house. Officers made entry into the residence and arrested the couple without incident.
Two other fugitives were also found inside the house.
Carrie E. Dobson, 32, of Corydon, was wanted out of Jefferson County, Ind., for failure to appear on a class D felony theft case. Mark S. Slayton, 38, was wanted out of Harrison County on two warrants for probation violations.
Paul and Robin Denny appeared in Clark County Circuit Court No. 1 on Thursday. They each requested a fast and speedy trial, which was set for March 13. They also said they plan to hire attorneys. Bond is set at $75,000 court cash.
Man wanted in California arrested in Sellersburg
The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force also arrested a fugitive wanted in California.
Dwayne M. Fields, 25, was arrested at his residence Tuesday in the 2200 block of Payne Koehler Road in Sellersburg. The native of Sacramento, Calif., had been incarcerated in California when he was released for Christmas. He allegedly absconded, or failed to return when required.
Topping said Fields was convicted of burglary and robbery. He was considered armed and dangerous and allegedly is a gang member.
