Legislators hosting town hall meeting
State Reps. Ed Clere, R-New Albany and Rhonda Rhoads, R-Corydon, and state Sen. Ron Grooms, R-Jeffersonville, will be hosting a town hall meeting from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Georgetown Elementary School, 8800 High St., Georgetown.
Pajama Bowl to support youth
Capitalizing on the fervor of the upcoming Super Bowl, Regional Youth Services will stage a week-long Pajama Bowl to benefit area abused and neglected children and teenagers. Organizers are hoping for a winning tally of new underwear, socks and pajamas.
RYS, the foster placement and support services agency serving the lower third of Indiana and based in Jeffersonville, is seeking donations of these new items between Jan. 28 and Feb. 4.
All sizes and styles for children from birth to age 17 are needed, since they often arrive as foster children for placement through RYS or in homes at its Noah’s Ark Children’s Village wearing only the clothes on their backs, said Michelle Brown, development director.
Individuals and families who wish to donate may drop off the items at Noah’s Ark, 101 Noah’s Lane off Allison Lane in Jeffersonville between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday; or at RYS, 228 E. Court Ave., opening at 8 a.m. and staying open until 8 p.m. on Mondays, 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 4 p.m. on Fridays.

NA-FC Friends book sale
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, the Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold their annual science fiction and fantasy book sale in the library’s Annex Building, in the parking lot at the corner of Scribner Drive and Spring Street.
All books in those sections will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for videos, DVDs, paperbacks and CDs; 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes; 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes; and 5 cents for vinyl records. Children’s books are available at prices of $1.00 or less.

New thrift store opening
Southern Indiana Animal Rescue is opening a new thrift store with all proceeds to benefit rescued animals.
Sophie’s Hope is the name of the shop, in honor of one of the neglected dogs that have recently come to the rescue. The opening is planned for Feb. 1 and the store will be located at 3808 E. 10th St. in Jeffersonville. The phone number is 812-786-9324.
Consider donating your gently used items to help with the care of the animals. Donations cover the cost of spay, neuter, micro-chipping, worming, flea/ tick control and any other health conditions a pet may have upon coming to the rescue.

Pasta dinner, auction is today
Several youth from Northside Christian Church in New Albany will be traveling to Haiti over spring break in March and to help defray the cost of the trip, the group is hosting a pasta dinner and auction from 5 to 9 p.m., today, Jan. 20, at A Nice Restaurant, 404 LaFollette Station in Floyds Knobs.
The cost is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens 55 and older, and $3 for children 3 to 12 years old.

Free showing of movie coming up
There will be a free showing of the new movie “Courageous” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, in the worship center of First Southern Baptist Church, Ettel Lane, Clarksville. Child care will be provided for children ages birth through 5 years old.
Filled with action and drama, “Courageous” focuses on everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children. The movie is rated PG-13 for some violence and thematic elements. There is no admission charge. Call for free child care at 812-288-8217.
CLARK COUNTY
Livestock enrollment set
Clark County 4-H youth planning to exhibit beef or dairy steers at the 2012 Clark County 4-H Fair must have their animal(s) enrolled and RFID tagged Feb. 4. The identification will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the fairgrounds, 9806 Ind. 62, Charlestown. Commercial heifers and cows can also be brought to this February enrollment date.
Four-H’ers must be in the possession of the animal(s) and be feeding and keeping records of their project from Feb. 4 to the Clark County 4-H Fair. If the animal(s) are not enrolled by the deadline date, the animal(s) will not be eligible to be shown at the 2012 Clark County 4-H Fair. All animals must be owned or owned in partnership by the 4-H member. First year 4-H members must join a local 4-H club and turn in a 2012 Clark County 4-H member enrollment form to the Clark County Extension Office prior to this Feb. 4 ID day to be eligible.
