CLARKSVILLE —
Arson investigators are looking into three structure fires that began at about the same time Tuesday morning in the 1500 block of Cliftwood Drive and 1600 block of Blackiston Mill Road in Clarksville.
“We’re probably going to lean toward this being arson,” Clarksville Fire Department Chief Tom Upton said Tuesday afternoon.
The fire department received a call at about 4 a.m. regarding a structure fire. Within about seven or eight minutes, they were getting numerous calls of other fires in the area. The fires occurred at a two-car detached garage, a three-car garage attached to a house through a breezeway and a 12-feet-by-12-feet shed.
Upton said the structures on Cliftwood — which were a total loss — are separated by about 100 yards, while the Blackiston Mill structure — which sustained serious damage — is another 200 yards away.
“The chances of them spreading from one to the other — there’s no way that could happen,” Upton said.
While the houses next to the destroyed garages were occupied, no one was injured.
Duke Energy temporarily shut off power to the neighborhood Friday morning in case there was an electrical cause, but investigators ruled out that possibility because there was no electricity going to some of the structures.
Upton said they are looking into some tips but have no suspects at this time. Officials are not releasing any additional details about the cause at this time because they do not want to jeopardize the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Clarksville Fire Department at 812-282-7619 or the Clarksville Police Department at 812-288-7151.
