Salvation Army hosting Thanksgiving meal

Thanksgiving dinner will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at The Salvation Army, 2300 Green Valley Road, New Albany.

Volunteers from The Salvation Army and Northside Christian Church will be serving traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. The dinner is open to the public, according to Maj. Steve Kiger with The Salvation Army. There will be no charge.

This dinner is offered to those who would otherwise be without a Thanksgiving dinner and fellowship.

STARLIGHT

Boost Blessings in a Backpack

A benefit bash for Blessings in a Backpack will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at Joe Huber Family Farm and Restaurant, 2421 Engle Road, Starlight.

The cost for tickets is $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Appetizers, tea, soft drinks and coffee will be included, with a cash bar available. New and gently used backpacks will be accepted the night of the event.

NEW ALBANY

Northside hosting annual holiday bazaar

Northside Christian Church’s Romania Mission Team, will host the fifth-annual holiday bazaar extravaganza, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at Providence Retirement Home, 4915 Charlestown Road, New Albany.

More than 40 vendors will feature handmade items from local artisan and crafters, seasonal gifts, holiday décor, jewelry, kitchen tools, bath and body, food products, home décor and much more.

Thanksgiving book sale upcoming

The Friends of the New Albany Library will hold its annual Thanksgiving book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the library’s Annex Building, 180 W. Spring St. New Albany.

All books in the cookbook and diet book section will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardbacks; 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks; 25 cents for audio book cassette tapes; and 10 cents for magazines. Children’s books are available at prices of $1 or less.

JEFFERSONVILLE

Parade sign-up deadline is today

Jeffersonville’s Light Up the Holiday Parade will be at 5 p.m. Dec. 1.

All parade participants will assemble on Riverside Drive at Spring Street at 4 p.m. for staging. The parade will start promptly at 5 p.m. and will travel north on Spring Street to Seventh Street, where it will end.

HENRYVILLE

Hope House to be dedicated today

While divisiveness around issues of faith often marked this year’s political season, Christians and Muslims have been quietly at work cooperatively building Hope House, a facility to house volunteers from throughout the country rebuilding tornado-damaged Southern Indiana.

The project will be dedicated at 4 p.m. today, Nov. 16, with an interfaith prayer service and reception at the 117 Railroad St. site in Henryville. The celebration will continue with a 6 p.m. concert at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage as part of Louisville’s Festival of Faiths.

CHARLESTOWN

Thanksgiving program set on the way

A Thanksgiving program and craft event, co-sponsored by Charlestown Library, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Charlestown Senior Center, Arts and Enrichment Center, Charlestown.

The public is welcome.

5K to help feed the hungry

The Get Nothing and Love It 5K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Charlestown State Park, Ind. 62, Charlestown.

There will be no T-shirts, no medals, just warm hearts. Entry fee is $10 or $10 worth of nonperishable foods.

Event day registration at the park will begin at 7:30 a.m.. Preregistration will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Eastside Christian Church, 2319 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville.
