Charlestown motorcyclist killed in collision with car

Reports of speeding motorcycles just before wreck

CHARLESTOWN — The Charlestown Police Department is investigating a motorcycle fatality which happened late Wednesday night near the intersection of Ind. 62 and Monroe Street.

Bryan Tucker, 21, of Charlestown, was air-lifted from the scene of the crash to University Hospital in Louisville, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, according to a Charlestown Police Department press release.

Police received calls just before 11 p.m. reporting two motorcyclists traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Ind. 62 just west of Charlestown, Detective Sgt. Chuck Ledbetter said.

Investigators believe Tucker was driving his 2001 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Ind. 62 before colliding with a 2008 Toyota Corolla near the intersection of Monroe Street.

The driver of the Toyota, a 42-year-old female from Charlestown, was treated at a local hospital with minor injuries and then released. Police haven’t released her identity.

Police say they are looking into all factors, including excessive speed, as a possible cause of the fatal accident.

“There was no actual pursuit at the time of the collision,” Ledbetter said.

He said another motorcyclist was stopped and cited at about the same time as the wreck.

Charlestown police requested the Clark County Fatal Crash Team assistance in the reconstruction aspect of the investigation.
