YMCA hosting Good Friday breakfast

The public is invited to a free, light breakfast and brief worship from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. on Good Friday, April 2, at the YMCA of Southern Indiana’s Clark County Branch, 4812 Hamburg Pike, Jeffersonville.

The Rev. Dr. Jean Wilson, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville, and a member of the Y’s Advisory Board, will deliver the morning message. This time together will also include worship hymns and a short time of reflection and prayer.

The hour-long Good Friday commemoration is a prelude to a new weekly Bible study at that branch, according to Dennis Enix, executive director, who will coordinate the Thursday morning sessions starting April 8 from 7:45 to 8:45. All ages are invited, and reservations are not necessary.

Call Enix at 812-283-9622 ext. 113 for more information.

• CLARK COUNTY

Shooting call-out for students

The Clark County 4-H Shooting Sports program, celebrating its 13th year, will host a call-out meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 16 in the Food Center at the Clark County 4-H Fairgrounds, 9608 Ind. 62, near Charlestown.

This program is designed to reach any Clark County youth, grades three through 12, who would be interested in joining the 2010 program.

Youth will have an opportunity to explore several shooting disciplines in the spring thanks to the Friends of NRA, which funded $4,000 toward purchasing new sporting arms equipment.

Clark County’s 4-H Youth Educator, Robert C. Allen, also an IDNR Hunter Education instructor, has worked with the County Shooting Sports Committee to build a foundation to use as a springboard to specialized firearm instruction in the future.

Parents and legal guardians are asked to attend as well since 4-H is a family affair. It is required that youth in ninth grade or younger attend with an accompanying adult. Adults with a special interest to teach youth firearm safety are also needed to assist with the program. Call 812-256-4591 for more information.

• SOUTHERN INDIANA

Meeting on youth is Monday

Individuals interested in and concerned about the well-being of children are encouraged to attend the upcoming Youth Count meeting from noon to 1:15 p.m. Monday in the lower level conference room of the Cancer Care Center, 2210 Green Valley Road, New Albany.

Donna Daily, faculty member from Indiana University Southeast’s School of Education, will facilitate an easy-to-replicate learning activity that illustrates and reinforces that whenever people come together, their resources vary greatly and that factor influences action — or lack of action.

Feel free to bring food and drink to this lunchtime meeting. Youth Count is a community-wide youth development initiative which focuses on connecting youth and adults to build the 40 Developmental Assets for and with youth through experiences and behaviors that build strong life foundations for young people.

Contact Barbara Bridgwater at 812-923-1160 or at barbara@youthcount.com for more information.
