Imagination Library hosting event, contest
Since its local launch in 2009, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Floyd County has distributed more than 77,000 free books to preschool children. To celebrate its third birthday a special event will be held at the New Albany-Floyd County Library from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 18.
Families with young children are invited to enjoy games, crafts, entertainment and birthday cake. A brief program at 10:30 a.m. will honor the program’s partners.
As a part of the celebration, Imagination Library is also sponsoring a photo contest. The winners will receive a $50 gift certificate to Destination Booksellers. Families who have children enrolled in the program are encouraged to enter a photo showing the child reading an Imagination Library book with an adult family member or friend. Only one entry per child is permitted. The deadline for entries is Friday, Aug. 10. All photos will be displayed at the New Albany-Floyd County Library’s Children’s Department and winners will be announced at the celebration. FMH to host Baby Fair Aug. 25
Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services annual Baby Fair will be from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 25, at the hospital’s Paris Education Center.
The fair will feature door prizes, interactive booths with the latest baby gear, resources and information as well as tours of the hospital’s expanded and renovated birthing center.
Parents can also watch demonstrations of 4-D ultrasound capabilities infant and pregnancy massage and meet delivering physicians and pediatricians.

Events to honor Julia Vissing
Ten years ago, William and Vicki Vissing lost their daughter, Julia Kay Vissing, in a traffic accident.
To honor and remember her, a memorial Mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. today, Aug. 8, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 315 E. Chestnut St., Jeffersonville. Family, friends and all who were touched by Julia’s presence are invited to attend.
The public also is invited to play in, donate to or attend the 10th and final Julia Vissing golf benefit and auction that will be held at Covered Bridge Golf Club on Friday, Aug. 10. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Sacred Heart School in Jeffersonville and Presentation Academy in Louisville — Julia’s alma mater.
