JEFFERSONVILLE —
The city of Jeffersonville is submitting a request for $400,000 to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a communitywide Brownfields Assessment Grant. Redeveloping Brownfields in the city is part of a comprehensive economic development approach to identify and assess potentially contaminated properties with the greatest potential for job creation and revitalization. Targeted areas include the primary gateways into Jeffersonville and the 10th Street Corridor. Awards will be announced in May and if selected, grant funds will be available October. Activities will include community involvement, inventory and prioritization of sites throughout the city, environmental assessments of sites, and cleanup planning, according to a press release from the city.
The initiative is supported by Claysburg, and Cherry Hill neighborhood associations, the Clark County Health Department, the Tenth Street Business Association, One Southern Indiana, Jeffersonville Urban Enterprise Association, Jefferson Main Street Inc., The Indiana Ports Authority, River Hills Economic Development District and Regional Planning Commission and Clark Memorial Hospital among others as a means to improve quality of life, environmental health and economic revitalization.
A copy of the grant proposal is available for review and comments at the Economic Development offices at City Hall, 500 QuarterMaster Court, Suite 257.
