Prom Aid coming up

The fifth annual Prom Aid, sponsored by the Clark County 4-H Junior Leaders, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4, in the Community Building at the Clark County 4-H fairgrounds, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown.

The collection of dresses and suits will be given away to any high school student from Clark, Floyd or neighboring counties. Nu Yale Cleaners has again agreed to clean the clothing for the giveaway.

Donations of new or gently used prom items can be taken to any Southern Indiana NuYale Dry Cleaners (Please tell them they are for 4-H Prom Aid) or the 4-H Extension Office, located at the 4-H Fairgrounds, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Feb. 24.

Chili event set for Feb. 16

Jeffersonville Main Street’s seventh-annual Chili & Brew Bonanza will from 5:30 to 8:30 Feb. 16.

The event features tastings of more than 20 varieties of chili and numerous local craft beer samples. In addition, there will be a live music and a silent auction.

Tickets are $20 each. Reserved table and sponsorship package are available for $250. NEW ALBANY



Boel to speak at luncheon

The United Methodist Men of Centenary United Methodist Church, 309 E. Spring St., New Albany, is sponsoring a Valentine’s luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 11 at the church.

Guest speaker will be John Boel, news reporter who will share his personal story of a new beginning.

A free-will offering will be taken to cover the cost of the luncheon. For more information call 812-944-7696. The reservation deadline is Feb. 8.



IUS Theater Department presents The Fantasticks

The theater department at Indiana University Southeast will present the musical, THE FANTASTICKS in the Robinson Theater of the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the IU Southeast campus, 4201 Grant Line Road in New Albany. Performance dates and times are: Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11 at 8 p.m., Sunday, February 12 at 2:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, February 19 at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for students, seniors and IU Southeast faculty and staff, and are available at the Ogle Center ticket office or by calling 812-941-2525. Free parking is available only in the Dogwood Lot directly in front of the Ogle Center from one hour before the performance until one hour after the conclusion of the performance. Civil War Presentation – Part 3 at the library

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library is presenting a third program on the Civil War with a special emphasis on local involvement in the war at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 9, in the Strassweg Auditorium.

Carl Kramer, director of the Institute for Local and Oral History of IU Southeast, will discuss “Indiana’s Jefferson Davis: A Clark County General in the Civil War.” General Jefferson Columbus Davis, a native of Memphis, helped Gov. Oliver P. Morton mobilize Indiana troops, and became infamous for murdering his commanding officer during a confrontation at the old Galt House hotel in Louisville during the confederate invasion of Kentucky in 1862.

Wild Turkey federation banquet coming up

The National Wild Turkey Federation, River Ridge Longbeards Chapter, annual hunting heritage banquet and fundraiser will begin at 4:30 p.m., Feb. 18, at St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church, 2605 W. St. Joseph Road, Sellersburg.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. Single tickets are $55; couples ticket, $75 and sponsor ticket, $300. Children 10 and younger are free.

The evening will include a live auction, silent auction and many prizes to be give away, as well as games.
