A Louisville man was charged this week with throwing a dog off the Clark Memorial Bridge and into the Ohio River in July.
Damon Dejuan Bledsoe, 39, of the 200 block of East Ormsby Ave., was charged with second-degree cruelty to animals in Jefferson County District Court in Kentucky, according to court records. He was arrested Tuesday.
The incident was witnessed by several people crossing the bridge as well as numerous people at Joe’s Crab Shack, a Louisville waterfront restaurant.
Nearby firefighters were able to rescue the dog, and police stated that it only received minor injuries and was treated by a veterinarian.
An arrest warrant states that Bledsoe later admitted to four people that he was the one who threw the dog off the bridge. That allegedly came after he threatened to throw the same people’s kittens off the bridge or into the sewer.
The female pit bull, named “Sunny,” was adopted by a waitress who witnessed the incident from Joe’s Crab Shack, according to newsgathering partner WLKY-TV in Louisville.
The waitress, Kelsey Westbrook, told the TV station that she hopes Bledsoe “rots in jail.”
Bledsoe remains in custody of Louisville Metro Corrections on $10,000 bond.
