CLARKSVILLE —
Clarksville police spotted a 62-year-old man wielding a crowbar chasing another man on Lewis and Clark Parkway on Wednesday afternoon.
The man with the crowbar was Miles McCart.
The man he was chasing down was Thomas O’Rafferty, 33, of Louisville, who had allegedly entered the home of McCart’s 89-year-old mother and stole several items. McCart took it upon himself to locate the man who reportedly stole from his mother and attempted to retrieve her belongings.
Before McCart could finish the job, police arrived and took O’Rafferty into custody, charging him with theft and possession of stolen property.
Earlier in the day, police report that O’Rafferty approached Mildred McCart outside her home in the 1000 block of Gutford Road. He asked the woman about homes for sale in the area and if he could use her restroom.
Mildred McCart allowed the man to enter her home while she waited outside.
After O’Rafferty left her property, Mildred McCart discovered that her purse, which contained her wallet and checkbook, credit cards and cash, and jewelry had been stolen.
She called her son for help.
Miles McCart took O’Rafferty’s description from his mother and went to look for him.
Miles McCart found O’Rafferty on Lewis and Clark Parkway and began questioning him about what had occurred at his mother’s residence. At first, according to the incident report, O’Rafferty denied to Miles McCart that he was involved in the burglary, and when Miles McCart asked him about his mother’s pocketbook, O’Rafferty took off running.
