SOUTHERN INDIANA    

Meeting on homeless postponed

A meeting scheduled between the communities of Clarksville, Jeffersonville and New Albany to discuss the issues of the homeless, poverty and transitional housing originally scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19 has been postponed.

The event will now take place in late October, with specifics to come at a later date, according to an email from Nathan Council, Jeffersonville city councilman.



Brandon’s House golf scramble set

Brandon’s House will hold its annual golf scramble Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Old Capital Golf Club in Corydon.

There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration is $85 per player and $340 per team. Golfers may bring their own teams or have one provided for them.

The cost includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, green fees, and lunch. Prizes will be awarded for first and last place, and there will be contests for the longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and longest putt. Golfers may register by calling 812-949-2499.

Proceeds benefit Brandon’s House, a nonprofit agency in New Albany that has given away more than $1.8 million worth of professional counseling to teenagers and their families in our community.



JEFFERSONVILLE

Kids sought for JHS play

At 3:45 p.m. Oct. 1, the Jeffersonville High School Theatre Department will hold auditions for elementary school girls, grades one through five, to be a part of the musical “Annie.”

Those interested should come to the JHS Auditorium, Performance Arts entrance. 2315 Allison Lane. No preparation is necessary.



JEFFERSONVILLE

K of C ladies’ card party on tap

Knights of Columbus Council 1324 Ladies Auxiliary, annual card party will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 225 E. Market St., Jeffersonville.

Desserts and refreshments, door prizes and bonus prizes. Major prizes, first, $400, second, $250, third, $100.



SELLERSBURG

Scramble to support Ivy Tech students

The Ivy Tech Foundation will hold the eighth-annual Douglas Schleicher Memorial Golf Scramble on Friday, Sept. 21 at Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg.

Proceeds from the event will benefit nontraditional Ivy Tech Community College students through student scholarships.

The event starts with registration and lunch from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A shotgun start is planned for 1 p.m. Registration is $175.

Pet Lover’s Gala set for Saturday

The Floyd County Animal Rescue League will hold its sixth-annual Pet Lover’s Gala in the Showroom of Horseshoe Casino & Hotel Conference Center at 6 p.m. Sept. 22.

This year’s Flashback to the ’80s-themed event will include a buffet dinner catered by Horseshoe [includes vegetarian option], disc jockey, games, door prizes and a silent auction.

All are welcome to join the Rescue League as they raise money to help needy and homeless pets. Ticket prices are $35 each or $300 for a table of 10. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. To purchase tickets for the event, stop by the NA-FC Animal Shelter, 215 W. NEW ALBANY

Learn about fall gardening

Are you interested in growing a garden this fall?

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will host a presentation by master gardener, Diane Wille, at 7 p.m. today, Sept. 18, in the Strassweg Auditorium .

Wille will speak on preparing a garden for fall and planning for the next season.

Zoo’s pledge walk is Saturday

The Louisville Zoo and Friends of the Zoo invite the public to participate in a fundraising adventure — the SOS Pledge Walk: Saving Species One Step at a Time.

Walk through the wild side at the Zoo to support and learn about endangered species. Enjoy special encounters with animal ambassadors, photo opportunities, free carousel rides and a post-event celebration and movie. To register, visit the Zoo’s website at louisvillezoo.org. A minimum of $50 in pledges is required to attend the after-hours SOS Walk and Celebration.
