Military vehicles leave Clarksville police station

Chief: Units never used, not working

CLARKSVILLE — After three years sitting outside the Clarksville police station, two military transport vehicles were hauled off this week.

Clarksville Police Chief Mark Palmer said the department paid more than $1,500 to have the units shipped to Clarksville three years ago, as the previous administration had planned to use the vehicles in SWAT team situations. However, the vehicles were never used, and Palmer said neither vehicle is working.

The vehicles were acquired from a military program and had to be returned. Palmer said the new administration had the units removed and shipped back to the military at no cost to the town.

Palmer said this is part of an effort by his administration to reduce wasteful spending.
