JEFFERSONVILLE —
A Jeffersonville couple returned to their home late Friday morning to find a burglar armed with a knife inside the residence.
Troy Brunelle, 34, of the 4000 block of Dunbar Drive, was later arrested by Jeffersonville police at the home in the 1300 block of Charlestown Pike.
Police said after the couple found the intruder in the home, the woman called authorities and the man was able to talk Brunelle into surrendering the knife and waiting for police to arrive.
Officers arrived and found Brunelle in the bedroom of the home.
As he was being taken into custody, police said, a prescription pill bottle that had been taken from the home was found in his pocket.
The folding knife he was discovered carrying before police arrived was also property of the homeowners, police said.
Officers discovered that Brunelle had forced open a rear door to gain entry into the home.
Brunelle was preliminarily charged with burglary, a class B felony.
Police said Brunelle told officers he had been released from jail on bond two days before.
Officials with the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex confirmed Brunelle had been an inmate at the facility from May 30 to Sept. 14. He posted bond after serving nearly three and one half months on three class B felony home burglary charges, two class D felony theft charges and a class C felony possession of a handgun without a license charge.
No court documents in reference to Friday’s arrest had been made available as of press time.
