Police: Meth lab found in Clarksville motel room

Clarksville police charge couple with multiple felonies

CLARKSVILLE — A couple’s dispute observed by a Clarksville police officer Monday at Circle K convenience store on Eastern Boulevard led to the discovery of a working methamphetamine lab at nearby America’s Best Inn.

According to a Clarksville Police Department incident report, the officer witnessed Amanda Marie Burden, 31, and Travis C. Kelley, 45, arguing at the Circle K at about 12:15 p.m. and followed them as they continued their verbal disagreement back to room No. 241 at America’s Best Inn, located at 342 Eastern Blvd.

The officer approached the couple at the motel and discovered Kelley in possession of a syringe and a glass vile used to smoke methamphetamine. Consent was given to search the room, according to Clarksville police, where a working methamphetamine lab was discovered.

Several items were seized during the investigation, including a plastic bottle containing methamphetamine, a spoon with traces of methamphetamine and other paraphernalia.

Burden and Kelley were preliminarily charged with dealing in methamphetamine, a class A felony, manufacturing methamphetamine, a class A felony, possession of a syringe, a class D felony, maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony, and possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

Burden was also served a warrant for a previous incident.

According to the police report, Kelley told officers he was cooking $1,000 worth of methamphetamine each week. Officers could not say how long Kelley had been manufacturing the drug.

Indiana State Police were called to the scene to conduct a clean-up of the lab in the motel room.

No court date was listed for Kelley or Burden in online records.
