Second person dies from Saturday crash

Police detective says accident details still being pieced together

A second man injured in a one-car accident Saturday in Charlestown has died at University Hospital in Louisville, as police continue to investigate how the early-morning crash happened.

Cory Flint, 26, of Madison, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the cause listed as blunt-force injuries, WHAS-TV in Louisville reported Thursday.

Robert D. Reynolds, 19, of Louisville, died Saturday following the wreck that occurred at about 6:05 a.m., just east of the intersection at Ind. 62 and Ind. 3. Brent Hamilton, 18, of Shepherdsville, Ky., was upgraded from critical to serious but stable condition earlier this week, but Charlestown Police Department Detective Chuck Ledbetter told The Evening News Thursday evening Hamilton “wasn’t doing good and had taken a turn for the worse.”

Ledbetter said authorities have determined that excessive speed was a factor in the accident, and they have interviewed two witnesses who were sitting at the intersection when the wreck took place.

Ledbetter said he is supposed to have the accident reconstruction team’s report today, but will have to wait on the two autopsies — likely to be completed next week — to put “all the pieces of the puzzle together” regarding the crash.

He said injury details revealed in the autopsies will help determine who was positioned where in the car, as well as if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
