Clark County Superior Court No. 1 Judge Vicki Carmichael accepted Glenn Murphy Jr.’s guilty plea on Monday. The former president of the Clark County Republican Party was sentenced to two years in prison with four years probation for criminal deviate conduct, a class B felony. He may serve only one year with good-time credit.
Murphy admitted to performing oral sex on a sleeping man after a party in a Jeffersonville home July 28.
The victim, 22, testified at the trial that Murphy’s actions had a great impact on his life.
“I think the victim wanted people to know that it wasn’t consensual,” Special Prosecutor Stan Levco said. “He wanted people to know what it meant to him.”
Levco said the victim — who declined to speak to media — felt it was important that justice took place because of other alleged victims who came forward after Murphy’s arrest. Murphy will be required to register as a sex offender once he is released from prison.
Murphy will not have to report to the Clark County Jail until noon July 14 because of population numbers there, Levco said.
