Police officers were led on a chase Thursday night after an armed robbery at Knobs Pointe Apartments in New Albany.
Indiana State Police and police departments from Clarksville, New Albany and Jeffersonville responded to reports of a robbery. Shortly before midnight, officers in the area noticed a vehicle fleeing the scene and attempted to stop it, according to a press release from ISP.
The vehicle refused to stop, and the pursuit traveled down several streets, reaching speeds of 80 mph. The fleeing vehicle eventually crashed into a parked car on Oak Street.
The man then allegedly took off on foot, but was apprehended shortly after the crash at the intersection of Elm Street and Indiana Avenue. No one was injured in the accident or the robbery, ISP said.
Cherok A. Douglass, 23, of Clarksville, was arrested for class B felony armed robbery, class D felony criminal recklessness with a vehicle, class A felony conspiracy to deal a schedule II controlled substance within a housing complex, class C felony convicted felon in possession of a handgun, class D felony pointing a firearm, class D felony possession of stolen property and class A misdemeanor reckless driving.
Douglass was taken to the Floyd County Jail where he awaits his first court appearance.
If convicted on all charges, Douglass could face 27 and a half to 88 years in prison.
