Haunted houses
Today
• Judgment House, 6 to 10 p.m. at Oak Park Baptist Church, 1111 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville. Admission is free. For more information, call 812-283-9400.
• Seventh annual Haunted Cemetery, opens at dark at 1230 Clark St., New Albany. Admission is free. Candy for trick-or-treaters.
Other events
• The Costume Carnival — a free, indoor, safe alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating, will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Floyd County 4-H Fairgrounds along Green Valley Road in New Albany. The event is sponsored by the 4-H Corp. Board. More than 30 companies from the community will pass out candy to the children with a free photo opportunity from Cornerstone Photography of Corydon at the end. While children are waiting to enter the event, a variety of mascots will be outside with them including, Sporty from Sports Clips, Buddy from the Fun House, Big Boy from Big Boys Restaurants, Fuzzy from Fantastic Sam’s and characters from the Derby Dinner Playhouse. There also will be a Moon Bounce courtesy of New Albany-Floyd County Parks and Recreation. Returning as a special guest is Pat Harrison from Harrison Realty as the Fairy God Mother.
• Concert at Riverfront Amphitheatre in New Albany, Sacred Sorrow and Brady Enders are performing — 7 p.m. today, admission is free
• The American Legion, Post 42, is kicking off its new program year with a Halloween party from 8 to 11 p.m. today at 5024 Bent Creek Drive, Floyds Knobs. Live music will be provided by popular local dance band, Buck and Lea, and cash prizes will be given in the costume contest. Snacks will be provided. The event is open to the public. Admission is $5 per couple and $3 per single. Call 812-923-9863 for more information.
• The Old Bridge Inn will host tours of its possibly haunted interior as a fundraiser for the no-kill shelter Animal Protection Association starting at noon Sunday at 131 W. Chestnut St., Jeffersonville. Several guests have reported seeing a ghost in the house, and two psychics have reported seeing a male ghost smiling and waving. Jeanne Burke, Clark County historian, will speak at 1 p.m. about haunted houses in the area.
In addition to home tours, the event will feature the sale of Christmas items including decorations, ornaments and collectibles. Tours will be offered every hour from noon to 2 p.m. through the inn, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the inn’s gift shop will be open until 3 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. • Georgetown Christian Church will host the 11th annual Community Carnival from 6 to 9 p.m. today at 9420 Ind. 64 in Georgetown. The event is free and open to the public, but scary costumes are not permitted. There will be carnival games, hay ride, bingo, cake walk and a food court. Also included are free candy giveaways and free dinners. A teenage party will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. in the church. Donations of canned goods to the food pantry are appreciated. • Halloween Party at Connor’s Place, 134 E. Market St., featuring live music from The Travelin’ Mojos, 7:30 p.m. today, no cover charge.
• A new 5K race called the “Monster Mash Dash” will start at 8 a.m.
Saturday and begin at Sam Peden Community Park, New Albany. The race includes a special one-mile fun run geared for youth eighth grade and younger. The Monster Mash Dash will take participants through the park and surrounding neighborhoods. All participants receive a free T-shirt. Participants are encouraged to wear a costume, and prizes will be given for the best costume. Proceeds will benefit the Youth Philanthropy Councils of Clark, Floyd and Harrison counties with dollars matched by the Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana. Registration is $20. Halloween safety tips
Submitted by the Indiana State Police:
• Parents should accompany their children and visit only homes of people you know for candy.
• Homes that are well lit should be chosen over those that are not.
• Children should refrain from eating anything until inspected.
• Costumes should be light in color and reflective tape should be used on them.
• Costumes should have eye openings for good visibility and be properly fitted to prevent stumbling.
• Children should carry a flashlight and cross at marked intersections only.
