Three arrested in Clarksville for creating counterfeit IDs

Three men living in Clarksville have been arrested for allegedly creating counterfeit identifications to be used by illegal immigrants.

Sergio Antonio Romero, 19, Alejandro Salazar Romero, 29, and Romelio Morales-Catarino, 36, were arrested for forgery.

Sgt. Jerry Goodin, of the Indiana State Police, said an investigation began last month based on a tip. On March 5, state police detectives came into possession of counterfeit IDs, an ISP press release states.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for apartment 24, building 520 of Cambridge Apartments in Clarksville. During the search, detectives found numerous counterfeit IDs, a computer, digital camera, DVDs and several other items used to make counterfeit IDs. All of the material was confiscated.

“They’re obviously selling these to people who are coming into the country illegally,” Goodin said.

Goodin did not know if the three suspects are legal citizens.

Morales-Catarino also was arrested for resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness with a vehicle. He allegedly fled the residence in his vehicle during the search. He was later located and found in possession of more counterfeit IDs.

Forgery is a class C felony punishable by two to eight years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
