Jeffersonville City Council calls Monday special session

The Jeffersonville City Council will meet in special session next week to formally accept the resignation of attorney Larry Wilder and discuss getting a new lawyer.

Wilder announced his resignation Wednesday, a week after police founding him sleeping in his neighbor’s trash can following a night of celebratory drinking.

The council meets 6 p.m. Monday at Jeffersonville City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court.

Council President Connie Sellers said no specific attorney names have been discussed. She said she wants someone who has city government experience, noting that the city has big issues — such as annexation and redistricting — to address.

Council Vice President Nathan Samuel said he would like to open the process up and allow attorneys to submit qualifications. At that point, a committee could be formed to make a suggestion.

A press release from the city said that other, unrelated business also may be discussed. Special meetings are open to the public.
