A Jeffersonville teenager was sentenced Monday to six years in prison and six years of probation after pleading guilty to a robbery outside the Jeffersonville Boys and Girls Club.
Brice J. Rhodes, 19, pleaded guilty to four counts of class B felony armed robbery and one count of class B felony criminal confinement. He also pleaded guilty to three counts of class C felony intimidation and class C felony carrying a handgun without a license in a separate case.
The sentence, which was part of a plea agreement, was accepted by Magistrate Bill Dawkins.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, a youth basketball team from Louisville was in Jeffersonville for a tournament. Four members of the team said they were on a bench outside the club when a group of eight to 10 males approached them.
One reportedly had a semi-automatic handgun, and cell phones and cash were stolen. Tyler C. Cain, 19, and a juvenile also were arrested. Cain’s case is pending, according to court records.
Man sentenced in four-wheeler, motorcycle theft
A Greensburg man was sentenced in Clark County Superior Court No. 1 on Monday to two years of probation and two years in prison for a burglary and theft in Henryville.
Vincent Hawkins, 19, pleaded guilty to class C felony burglary and class D felony theft. Hawkins was arrested, along with his 24-year-old brother, Daniel, and a juvenile for allegedly stealing two motorcycles and a four-wheeler in January 2009.
A witness reportedly called police at about 4:30 a.m. to report that three males were loading the four-wheeler onto a trailer. Police later stopped the truck that was pulling the trailer on U.S. 31.
Dawkins, the magistrate, accepted the plea agreement, and rejected a request from Hawkins’ attorney, Jeffrey Baldwin, to allow all four years of the sentence to be suspended to probation.
Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said at least a portion of the sentence should be served in jail to reflect the seriousness of a burglary offense.
Daniel Hawkins’ case is still pending, according to court records.
