Police investigate armed robbery at Sheraton Hotel

Three suspects reportedly stole half million in diamonds

Jeffersonville police say three unknown suspects robbed a man at knifepoint outside Jeffersonville’s Sheraton Hotel, at 700 W. Riverside Drive, on Wednesday morning.

The men took a bag with more than half a million dollars in diamonds, Jeffersonville Police Department Detective Charlie Thompson said. Thompson said the victim works in the diamond industry and was staying at the hotel. As he exited the building at about 11:30 a.m., a man was waiting for him in the parking lot.

Two other men were also believed to be part of the robbery.

The suspect with the knife was described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt. Another suspect was a Hispanic male in his 50s. The victim was unable to clearly see the third suspect.

The men left in a black Kia sport utility vehicle. They were seen driving westbound on Riverside Drive. Thompson said the men likely knew the victim would be carrying the diamonds and targeted him in the robbery.

Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the case to immediately call JPD at 812-283-6633 or the anonymous tip line at 812-218-TIPS.

Man charged with sexual misconduct with minor

A 33-year-old Jeffersonville man is facing multiple felony charges after reportedly giving marijuana to a 15-year-old girl and then sexually assaulting her.

Roy M. Davey Jr., is charged with class B felony sexual misconduct with a minor, class D felonies criminal confinement and dealing in marijuana, and class A misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The girl was reportedly baby-sitting for a Jeffersonville woman in August when Davey arrived at the house, according to a probable-cause affidavit. The victim reportedly told investigators that she smoked marijuana he gave her and that she resisted his attempts to kiss her.

She said he then threw her on the ground and forced her to have intercourse with him. She later told her mother what happened.

The girl reportedly took a polygraph test and showed no deception. She also had injuries consistent with her story.

Davey refused to speak to detectives, according to the affidavit.

Davey faces seven to 39 years in prison if convicted of all charges. He was arrested on Tuesday and is being held in the Michael L. Becher Adult Corrections Complex on $20,000 cash-only bond.

Maj. Chuck Adams said a man, whose name has not been released, was hospitalized with a stab wound after 1 p.m. Wednesday. Adams said the man has given conflicting accounts of what happened.

He initially said the stabbing occurred at a convenience store across from Jeffersonville High School, but then said it was at the Q-Mart at Middle Road and Allison Lane.

Adams said Wednesday afternoon that detectives were interviewing the victim and had requested a search warrant for a vehicle in relation to the case. He said they had not ruled out any possibilities.
