Steamboat hosts fall art exhibit
The Howard Steamboat Museum announced that November’s eighth-annual Fall Into Art Exhibit will feature works by Patty Thum, the turn-of-the-century Louisville painter and illustrator known internationally for her flower paintings, and will include special events beginning with an opening reception at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
The reception will feature guest speaker Estill Curtis Pennington at the museum, 1101 E. Market St., Jeffersonville.
The exhibition — the first devoted to this artist in decades — will run Sunday through Nov. 22 and will include landscapes and still lifes in oil and watercolor, as well as drawings and period prints. A full-color catalog of the exhibit will be available.
Three special presentations will be given related to the exhibit and will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the museum’s library. Scheduled presenters are: Nov. 7, Tom Owen, premier scholar of the history of Louisville; Nov. 8, Lynn Renau, researcher, genealogist and past curator at the Filson Historical Society and the Kentucky Derby Museum; and Nov. 15, Madeline Covi, art enthusiast, volunteer and friend of the museum. Following Covi’s talk, attendees are encouraged to bring their Thum paintings for a show and tell session where stories about Thum and her work can be shared.
The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular museum hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday; 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Ghost stories and tours Sunday
The Old Bridge Inn will host a Hauntingly Good Time event, beginning at noon Sunday at The Old Bridge Inn, 131 Chestnut St., Jeffersonville, with proceeds benefiting the Animal Protection Association.
Linda Williams, the inn’s owner, will conduct a haunted house tour from noon to 3 p.m. and Clark County Historian Jeanne Burke will tell ghost stories at 12:30 p.m.
Burke and Williams are compiling a book of ghost stories that will be sold later to raise funds for the APA, an all-volunteer, no-kill shelter at 702 E. 11th St. in Jeffersonville.
The Southern Indiana Writer’s Group’s will have a table selling various ghostly books as well as doing some readings. T. Lee Harris of the group will read from the group’s anthologies: “Ghosts on the Square … and Elsewhere,” “There’s Something Under The Bedtime Stories” and “Beastly Tales.” Also presented will be SIW author Joanna Foreman’s “Ghosts Of Interstate 65”.

City plans holiday events
The city of Charlestown is looking for anyone who would like to be a member of its Community Choir. The choir will perform at Light Up Charlestown on Nov. 27.
The city is looking for 200 or more people who will be a part of the celebration. They will practice at the Arts and Enrichment Center on Nov. 10 and Nov. 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The choir will lead children in singing Christmas carols before the countdown and will sing “The Hallelujah Chorus” after the lights come on. The choir will be led by Theresa Smith from the LDS congregation in New Albany.
The city also is looking for entertainment for Friday and Saturday nights in Greenway Park throughout December. Featured will be a Santa’s Workshop and carriage rides on those nights.

Appeals court hears Covered Bridge case
The Indiana Court of Appeals heard the respective oral arguments on the town of Sellersburg’s effort to annex the Covered Bridge Subdivision and the Willows on Wednesday. Covered Bridge appealed the trial court’s ruling that the town’s annexation preceded the subdivision’s effort to incorporate into an independent town and that, in exchange for sewer service, the residents would agree to not remonstrate against the annexation attempt.
