Board of Works meeting changed
The Jeffersonville Board of Public Works and Safety will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall, 500 Quartermaster Court.
The board normally meets on Wednesday morning, but city offices are closed Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

Parts of Walnut Street closed next week
The Clarksville-Jeffersonville Flood Control will close Walnut Street between Market Street and Riverside Drive during the day Thursday, according to the city of Jeffersonville.
According to a press release, from city workers will be practicing floodgate installation.

St. Paul’s hosting bazaar
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 321 E. Market St., Jeffersonville, will host a holiday bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14.
The church will have a bake sale, take orders for pies by Charlotte and sell holiday decorations.

Patti Simmonds will perform a dance routine at the morning service Nov. 15.

Open house coming to downtown
Historic Jeffersonville’s sixth-annual Holiday Open House will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with more than 20 merchants participating.
A trolley will be running on Spring Street and surrounding areas. The event is sponsored by the Jeffersonville Merchants Association.

Benefit upcoming for Cissell family
A benefit for the family of Destiny Cissell will be from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Nov. 21 at Third Base Tavern, 134 Spring St., Jeffersonville.
This is an all-ages show until 10 p.m. Cover is $5 per person.
Born May 4, 1999, with nonketotic hyperglycinemia, she was not expected to live past the age of nine months, but she fought to the age of 10. She died Oct. 27, 2009.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the Cissell family.

RYS secures grant
Regional Youth Services — a nonprofit, accredited foster placement and support services agency serving 15 counties in Southern Indiana — recently received a Community Relief Fund grant of $11,567 from a partnership among the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, The Paul Ogle Foundation and the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County.
The three funders united to give grants to organizations that assist people with basic needs of health care, food, shelter and clothing.
Regional Youth Services will use the funds for emergency assistance to families in its Home-Based Services program that works with children and parents before foster placement may be needed. The money will help families overcome financial difficulties that could hamper them from staying together, a press release says.

Limited tickets remain for IUS event
A limited number of tickets remain available for the Indiana University Southeast 2009 Chancellor’s Medallion Dinner.
It will be held Nov. 14 at Huber’s Orchard and Winery. The silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. This year’s dinner will be emceed by Wayne Perkey, former WHAS Radio personality.
This year’s event honors two deserving recipients: Jim Keith, executive director of the Clark-Floyd Counties Convention and Tourism Bureau, and the late Lillian Yeager, former dean of the School of Nursing at IU Southeast.
The Chancellor’s Medallion is the highest honor presented by the Chancellor of Indiana University Southeast. It is given to individuals who have rendered distinguished service to the university and to the community, have given their talents in the promotion of human welfare and community well-being, and who — through their integrity, sensitivity and commitment — serve as models for students and alumni of IU Southeast.
Proceeds from the dinner go to the Chancellor’s Medallion Leadership Scholarship program. The scholarships recognize students for participation and leadership in academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and community volunteerism. The 2009 scholarship winners are Amanda M. Beamer, Wes Halfacre, and Richele Lindsey.

Appeals court hears Covered Bridge case
The Indiana Court of Appeals heard the respective oral arguments on the town of Sellersburg’s effort to annex the Covered Bridge Subdivision and the Willows on Wednesday. Covered Bridge appealed the trial court’s ruling that the town’s annexation preceded the subdivision’s effort to incorporate into an independent town and that, in exchange for sewer service, the residents would agree to not remonstrate against the annexation attempt.
