Many residents and businesses in Clark County were without power Wednesday afternoon.
The power loss occurred at about 1:30 p.m. after a vehicle hit a utility pole on U.S. 31, near Raben Tire Co. Angeline Protegere, Duke Energy spokeswoman, said the accident knocked down a power line. About 5,600 customers were affected at the height of the outage, but power was restored just before 4 p.m.
Many businesses along Lewis and Clark Parkway and Veterans Parkway in Clarksville had signs in the windows notifying customers they were closed. The Evening News spoke with several business owners who deferred questions to their corporate offices.
Ivy Tech Community College, in Sellersburg, along with its Jeffersonville annex, was closed until 5 p.m. because of the power outage, according to Robyn Davis Sekula, media consultant for the college.
